This beginner's ebook and the related video version share lessons from my many years of experience helping people overcome their difficulty adapting to CPAP therapy for sleep apnea. They explain how apnea occurs and how it affects the health, safety and wellbeing of those who have it. They also discusse alternative treatments and how to tell if you might benefit from one of them.

I have thirty years of experience in sleep disorders and their treatments, especially sleep apnea. Almost everyday, I deal with people's problems with their CPAP machines and masks.  In this book and video, I tell you what I wish I had time to tell everyone before starting on CPAP.  I explain in everyday terms how sleep apnea occurs and how it affects your health and safety.  I explain how CPAP works, why your doctor may seem to prefer it over other therapies, why it is sometimes very difficult to adapt to, and what you can do about it.

The book or video will give you the information to solve many of your problems with your CPAP and help you talk with your doctor about how to solve the others.  They are targeted for beginning CPAP or APAP users but may be helpful for bilevel-PAP (BPAP, BiPAP, AVAP) users.  

There is a lot of free information available about sleep apnea and CPAP usage.  Some of this information is useful and some is not. For the most part it is accurate, but it is often incomplete or biased.  And I also have a bias: CPAP will not work for you if you do not use it!

This ebook and the related video program address the major causes of insomnia and teach you the only "natural" insomnia solution.  Independently or together they guide you through the six-week program we have effectively used in our labs for the past thirty years.  There is probably an advantage to doing both.

Sleep is a learned behavior and this program should teach you how to optimize your sleep to the best your own biology will allow. This program will teach you about sleep and how it is controlled. You will learn the three major drives for sleep that determine whether you should be awake or asleep at any time. You will learn how they interact to determine whether you will transition from awake to asleep or from asleep to awake. You will learn the major behavioral insomnia strategies, how they address the sleep drives and it will lead you through them sequentially. You will learn how to apply that knowledge of sleep to your own sleep and wake performance.

The program falls within the approach called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) which simply means that you learn about sleep, how sleep is controlled, how insomnia occurs, and how to apply that knowledge to your behavior. Studies have shown that, in the long term, CBT for insomnia (CBT-I) is as effective as sleeping medications. If you are looking for the truly natural way to improve your sleep, CBT is it.
