This valuable ebook shares lessons from my many years of experience helping people overcome their difficulty adapting to CPAP therapy for sleep apnea. It explains how apnea occurs and how it affects the health, safety and wellbeing of those who have it. It also discusses alternative treatments and how to tell if you might benefit from one of them.
You've heard how wonderful CPAP is and how it makes you feel like a new person.
But have YOU had that experience?
Let me help you solve problems such as:

Difficulty exhaling
Pulling the mask off in your sleep
Mouthbreathing
Difficulty falling or staying asleep with CPAP
Nasal congestion or "runny nose" on CPAP
Waking suddenly with the CPAP
Claustrophobia
Condensation in the hose
Stomach bloating on CPAP
and others

I have almost twenty-five years experience in sleep disorders and their treatments, especially sleep apnea. Everyday, I deal with people's problems with their CPAP machines and masks.

I regularly conduct sleep disorders and CPAP support group meetings and an online support forum. I listen to the problems people face and the solutions they find. And I use a CPAP machine. Thanks to my job, I get to try every new mask and machine.

This experience has translated into a notably higher CPAP usage rate among those who were tested in my lab and we ordered the CPAP versus those tested and treated in other, nearby, labs.

In this book, I explain in everyday terms how sleep apnea occurs and how it affects your health and safety. I explain how CPAP works, why your doctor seems to prefer it and why it is so often the prescribed treatment, why it is sometimes very difficult to adapt to, and what you can do about it.

This book will give you the information to solve many of your problems with your CPAP and help you talk with your doctor about how to solve the others.
Why you should buy this book!
There is a lot of free information available about sleep apnea and CPAP usage. Some of this information is useful and some is not. For the most part it is not inaccurate, but it is often incomplete or biased, more like an infomercial.

This book gives an overview of sleep apnea and the therapies available. Other therapies are discussed, as well as how to know if you might benefit from one of them, but the focus of the book is on learning to live with CPAP.

I do have one bias: CPAP will not work for you if you do not use it!

Estimates by medical economists suggest that as much as eighty percent of the cost of medical care in the United States is the result of lifestyle related illness. This is because our current health challenges are from the degenerative diseases often associated with aging. Health cannot be provided by medical care alone.

Unfortunately, many people perceive a wholesome lifestyle as punitive. In this short ebook I hope to convince you that a “healthy” lifestyle is neither unpleasant nor hard to do, and that good health is its own reward. The book is based upon the discussions I often have with patients in our sleep lab. Some of my ten secrets will not be new to you, but I hope to provide a new perspective. I’ll bet you haven’t heard of some of the others

This ebook does
NOT give medical advice. Only your doctor can give medical advice to you. This book does give general health and lifestyle related information which may, or may not, be appropriate for a specific individual. I have included references for illustrative purposes but this is not meant as an exhaustive review of the scientific literature.
In this ebook I share some of the simple strategies that I discuss with those tested in our lab. Of course, it is an individualized discussion in that case but I am always amazed at how people see a "healthy lifestyle" as a huge sacrifice and change. In reality it starts with several small and simple steps.

If you have been diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea there's a good chance your doctor told you to lose weight. He or she may have even given you a prescription for a weight loss medication or referred you to a weight loss clinic or maybe just gave you a handout on diet and exercise.

But did your doctor tell you about the special connection between sleep and weight control? Did she or he tell you that weight loss would be very difficult if your apnea was not adequately controlled? And if you were prescribed a CPAP machine, were you told how important it could be in your weight loss effort?

In this ebook I will tell you about the connection between sleep, weight control, and sleep apnea. The story begins with some very interesting sleep deprivation research from the 1980s and continues today. I hope this information will be helpful to you

This ebook does

This ebook does give important information which a specific individual may, or may not, find appropriate for his or her situation. In this ebook I will share important information that will help you achieve your weight loss goal. There are no "magic" potions, no rigid diets, no secret supplements but there is straightforward, scientifically based knowledge about energy balance that is especially helpful for the person with sleep apnea.
